Shadow / At Last I’m Bored
Songwriting duo James Hearn (guitar) and Bobby McBrierty (bass) are joined by drummer Greg Sullivan and guitarist Adam Smith on this double-A side single release. ‘Shadow’ often closes their sets is a nod to departed and dear friends whilst the second cut has focus on their harmony vocal work.
There’s a slight tinge of Spanish/Latin about the galloping core track which ploughs a tight four-chord sequence as a confident dual vocal tells the tale. The arrangement has many dynamic nuances which work a treat, though maybe the chorus is over-repetitive. What this cut does is show what a fine drummer they have, for sure. ‘At Last I’m Bored’ sounds like a Smiths outtake with a less mannered vocal. James Hearn and his fellow singers sound polished enough but emotive. I can see them getting an audience
